ROTOTO’s socks are made in Japan’s largest sock producing region, Nara Prefecture. The area has been known for its quality textile since around the 17th century. As textile weaving declined and people’s life style changed with time, sock production was gradually developed in the area as a new industry. With such a background, the local people in the region still call sock knitting as ‘sock weaving.’
ROTOTO places more value on manufacturing that requires a lot of discussion with factory craftsmen who preserve the tradition and history. To make an ideal pair of socks, exchanging opinions with skilled craftsmen is as important as using the right machine depending on a product.
ROTOTO’s socks can be made only with a combination of the right material, the right machine and craftsmanship. The aim is to preserve the tradition inherited from their ancestors, while painting the future of the major producer of socks with a fresh point of view. ROTOTO will keep trying to produce things that can be created only in this place.
Did you know that a fabric band wrapping a pair of ROTOTO socks is designed from fabric waste generated during the toe-knitting process? With the band, you can easily detect the size of a product because each size comes with a different color band. It serves also as a replacement of a plastic sock hanger for display.
【Product Description 】
These chunky slipper socks are knitted with a machine specially made to produce fisherman’s socks and other work socks. Made of soft, comfortable and heat-retaining acrylic/wool blend yarn, the fabric enhances the heat-retaining properties even more with a liner that is brushed after being knitted. Featuring an interior elastic band placed a little lower than the sock hem, the pair can be worn also with the hem turned. Slip-resistant rubber print on the sole adds extra functionality to these socks. * Machine-washable. * Avoid tumble drying, as it may cause shrinkage. * The surface of this sock is quite sensitive to abrasion and can be worn out easily if you wear it with leather shoes.
