ROTOTO’s socks are made in Japan’s largest sock producing region, Nara Prefecture. The area has been known for its quality textile since around the 17th century. As textile weaving declined and people’s life style changed with time, sock production was gradually developed in the area as a new industry. With such a background, the local people in the region still call sock knitting as ‘sock weaving.’
ROTOTO places more value on manufacturing that requires a lot of discussion with factory craftsmen who preserve the tradition and history. To make an ideal pair of socks, exchanging opinions with skilled craftsmen is as important as using the right machine depending on a product.
ROTOTO’s socks can be made only with a combination of the right material, the right machine and craftsmanship. The aim is to preserve the tradition inherited from their ancestors, while painting the future of the major producer of socks with a fresh point of view. ROTOTO will keep trying to produce things that can be created only in this place.
Did you know that a fabric band wrapping a pair of ROTOTO socks is designed from fabric waste generated during the toe-knitting process? With the band, you can easily detect the size of a product because each size comes with a different color band. It serves also as a replacement of a plastic sock hanger for display.
【Product Description 】
The WASHI PILE CREW SOCKS are crafted using crisp Washi (Japanese paper) yarn, with a pile-knit lining that provides a refreshing and breathable fit. The Washi yarn is derived from Manila hemp fiber, which is also used in making paper currency. This material is lightweight, durable, and highly absorbent, ensuring excellent moisture-wicking properties. While Washi yarn is typically difficult to knit into a pile texture, a specialized knitting machine and expert craftsmanship have made it possible, resulting in a truly unique pair of socks. *Avoid tumble drying, as it may cause shrinkage.
